Play Almost Any Video File in your PC: K-Lite Codec Pack
With the K-Lite Codec Pack, you can almost play any video file using only your Windows Media Player Classic.
With the several video file types existing today, it’s very hard to install just one player. What’s worse is multiple files with the same file type are sometimes encoded differently – which would then require different codecs for it to play in your media or video player.
I use the K-Lite Video Codec Pack in two of my Windows based machines and it hasn’t failed me since. It installs various codecs and uses by default the lightweight Windows application Media Player Classic in playing video files.

I’ve played various file formats including DivX, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, AVI, MP4, AMR, XviD, WAV, AC3, AAC, and many more. These are only some of the files it can play.
You just need to download it at the download page of their official site at codecguide.com or at free-codecs.com.
Download the FULL version of the K-Lite Codec Pack and not just the basic and standar packs. If you have other codec packs installed in your computer, it is better to uninstall it first before installing K-Lite Codec Pack. If in case there are other codec packs installed that you’ve forgotten, most of the time the K-Lite Codec installer would detect them and recommend actions before actual installation.

owning a UMPC, i would not want to install as many players so i decided to hav just this klite codec (which also installs the media player classic) and everything went fine until i had to play this file “asf”. it couldnt be played by mpc=) i had to resort to installing wmp11 again..
but klite codec thing is highly recommended! thx for this
@Karasu: I think what you have installed is the standard version only of the k-lite codec pack. Try to install the k-lite codec pack FULL version, and things might go differently for you. I play ASF files in WMP classic as well.
Also, K-Lite codec pack maybe assumes that you have the standard installation of windows and therefore just installs the codecs that are not in wmp11. Have you by chance uninstalled it so as to have just a light player? For instance in a netbook?
