Password Protect and Hide a Folder Containing Important Files

Here are three easy steps on how to password protect a folder containing important files located in your hard drive in a Windows operating system.

I’m sure most of us all have files which we don’t want anyone else to see. Our PC may have password protection during logon, but this usually isn’t enough as some (like in my case), have several users.

I’ve even tried hiding files and folders to no avail. The search function of Windows is too good that it can search hidden files and folders.

So how do we really secure our personal files?

1. Put all your files and folders in one location

If your files are located in different locations in your hard drive, you should bring them together under one folder. You may still put subfolders under it which would also contain your personal files.

For example purposes let’s say the folder you are going to protect is “FolderTechieChips”

 

2. Download and Install My Lockbox of FsPro Labs

My Lockbox is a free software made by FSPro Labs which is able to put password protection in a single folder to prevent unauthorized access. Any files and subfolders under this folder would also be password protected. Windows search would also be unable to locate and access your protected files.

During the installation of My Lockbox in your PC, the software will already ask you what would be your password in protecting your files.

 

 

It will then ask you to input the folder you would like to put password protection.

In the example in step 1 we created the folder named “FolderTechieChips” where we put all our important files. This is the folder then that we should password protect.

 

 

You would then need to restart your PC for the installation to be completed.

 

 

3. Finished! Just access your folder to test it.

When you have completed the reboot, just click on the My Lockbox shortcut which was created and you would be asked for your password. If you input the correct password, the folder you protect would then be opened.

 

 

If you want to further customize My Lockbox just click on the taskbar icon which will only be shown if you’ve launched My Lockbox.

Note: If you don’t launch My Lockbox your folders won’t be seen and will remain protected. Launching My Lockbox will prompt you to open the hidden and password protected folder.
