How to Use Super Video Converter

Super Video Converter is one of the best free converters available today. It supports multiple video formats (even unpopular ones) and is very flexible.

We’ve been using Super Video Converter for quite some time now as it supports multiple video formats and its conversion options are very flexible. You can convert from almost any kind video format, and then convert it to another format with a different aspect ratio, video bitrate, aspect size, etc.

We now have quite a few tutorials on how to convert videos on various gadgets (i.e. mobile phones) in TechieChips. As we use Super Video Converter in almost all of them, I decided that it’s time to make a general tutorial on how to use Super Video Converter so that I don’t repeat them on every video conversion article I make.

In the middle of this article you’ll also see a list of all the video conversion guides I’ve made. You can always check this page if I’ve made one for your gadget (I’d be happier if you subscribe to the feed or email updates!). If not, you can always use the contact form (not the comments area please!) and ask me to make one for you!

Download and Install Super Video Converter

You could download the latest Super Video Converter in their official website eRightSoft. However it’s very hard to find the download link at their official website as it’s buried several pages deep. I’ve provided the download link for the latest Super Video Converter below. I’ve also included previous versions of the converter as some people are having a hard time converting with the new one.

Latest Version:
Super Video Converter (build 46 – Feb 12, 2011)

Previous Versions:
Super Video Converter (build 37 – Jan 2, 2010)

Super Video Converter (build 36 – June 10, 2009)

Super Video Converter (build 35 – Jan 5, 2009)

Super Video Converter (build 33 – Sep 2, 2008)

Super Video Converter comes with an automatic upgrade. I however suggest that you fully uninstall any previous versions of Super first and then install the latest version.

Using Super Video Converter

The guide below is for the latest Super Video Converter. Previous versions may be a little different but the basics remain the same.

1. Launch Super Video Converter

Once it’s successfully installed, just double-click the shortcut icon at your desktop and then this is what you should see.

If you don’t see a similar screen when you launch Super, make sure the first option at the upper-left corner of the screen is selected – as seen in the screenshot below.

2. Select the Video You Want to Convert

Drag the video file you would want to convert, on the area where it says “DROP A VALID MULTIMEDIA FILE HERE”.

Once you’ve successfully dragged the file you want to convert to Super, it should be listed and have a checkmark beside it like the one below:

3. Indicate the Conversion Settings

This is where you enter the conversion settings for your gadget (mobile phone, video player, etc.). Below is a list of all the video conversion guides I’ve made which uses Super Video Converter.

Convert Movies and Videos for the Nokia N97 and N97 Mini
Convert Movies and Videos for the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic
Convert Movies and Videos for your Samsung Omnia
Convert Movies and Videos for your Nokia E75
Convert Videos and Movies for your Sony Ericsson G705
Convert Any Video or Movie file for DVD Players
Convert Videos and Movies for your Nokia E90
Convert Movies and Videos for your Nokia E66
Convert Movies and Videos for your Nokia E63
Convert Movies and Videos for your Nokia 5800
Convert Movies / Videos for your Sony Ericsson P1i
Convert Movies and Video Files for your Nokia E71 / E61 / E61i

5. Encode /Convert your Video or Movie

Click Encode (Active Files) which is located at the bottom, and just wait for your file to be encoded. The longer the video or the movie is, the longer the encoding process.

Note: If you have the latest Super Video Converter, it would save the converted video in the same folder where the source video is. However, if you’re using Super Video Converter build 35 and lower, you need to set the folder where the converted videos are. You can do this by pressing Ctrl+T or by right-clicking any part of Super and choosing Output File Management. The default location where it saves converted videos is “C:\Program Files\eRightSoft\Super\OutPut”

Also while converting, Super displays a green bar to show the progress of conversion.

Sometimes it goes full and then resets back to empty (especially on large files). You might think that there’s something wrong with the conversion but there really isn’t. Just let it convert until it’s finished.

Easy isn’t it? If you have any questions on how to use Super Video Converter don’t hesitate to ask – you can do so in the comments section below.

    • Ige says:

If you’re using a netbook like an Asus EeePC or Acer Aspire One, try increasing the resolution of your screen. It gets cut of when you dont meet the minimum screen resolution.

      • Dimitris says:

The eee PC does not change resolution (max 1024X600) which is not enough. Moreover it proved impossible to move the window with programs like Taekwindow. I believe, for the moment, is not possible to use Super in small sized PCs.

        • Ige says:

There’s a small icon in the taskbar which you can use to adjust the screen size. When you do increase it, your screen would scroll like an internet browser. Icons would stay the same but you can scroll up and down to view the bottom of the screen.

          • Becky says:

Hi, just wanted to tell you about a little trick I just thought of and tried since I use a mini netbook as well and ran into this issue.

Try changing the skin – on mine the Mac OS skin shows the top of the encode button. At least you can get that ball rolling. Hope someone finds this post helpful! :)

          • Ige says:

Thanks for the tip Becky. I’m sure other readers would appreciate and find your tip helpful.

  7. jaydeep says:

    Hi,

Can we convert .vob files using SUPER??

  8. Arpit Garg says:

I have often seen that many MP4 converters does not provide 640*360 resolution exactly; and the screen is displayed as a strip confined between black borders. Can’t we get full screen view without affecting Quality….I have come across one software that gives full screen display but quality detroits.
Does this software solves all that problem???

    • Ige says:

If the source file is of good quality, it will convert the video without affecting the quality. Remember also that if the source video is not naturally in 640×360 and black borders are naturally embedded in the video, it would not be removed in the conversion.

  14. theman5511 says:

How can I use SUPER(C) to convert .avi files into smaller, compressed .mp4 files? It seems that when I change the BitRate the file size remains same…However I could be doing something wrong. Please helpl…

    • Ige says:

You can lower the Video Bitrate as it could lower the file size. Maybe your files are really large (or the videos are long) that’s why the converted file is still large. You could also try to lower the video scale size but I think that should be a last resort.

  15. br says:

i tried to convert flv as well as mp4 to asf.

  17. mark says:

    PLEASE HELP!!!

    • Ige says:

This has been reported as an issue of Super in some installations. I do suggest that the latest build of Super is always installed. But if that doesn’t work, try the previous versions of Super which I have also posted above.

  22. Arnold says:

…and is there any way i can donate without a credit card…i am just a student…and im really great-full for this software..its FANTABULOUS !!!!

  23. Anup says:

    Hello the software works fine
but when i put the video on the phone (phone memory)
it works but does not have any sound!!!
i tried putting it on the memory card but it says
    the phone is not responding.

    can you please help me

my phone is a nokia 5530

    • Ige says:

That’s odd. It should play nicely with the settings indicated – whether be it phone memory or through a memory card (although its recommended that you save it in the memory card). Have you tried it with other video files? Try to update your firmware through Nokia’s software updater.

  24. Dave says:

  25. Shrut says:

    Hi Ige,

Just want to know does it convert flv videos to Nokia 5800 mp4 format…
    Plz tell…

    And…
Is there any software in which I can add subtitles to the converted file (especially for Nokia 5800 Compatible)…

    Plz plz reply soon…

  26. Gautam says:

    Nice software.

When i convert 100Mb HD(.mkv) file, it plays very smooth, but when i convert 4.5GB HD(.mkv) file, even though the quality is good it dos not play smoothly.

Any idea ho to correct this issue..

    • Ige says:

Try modifying the bitrate to a higher/lower value. The gadget where you might be playing the converted file may not be able to handle such a big file.

  27. W0NK042 says:

Does anybody know the conversion settings for the Tocco Lite/Star (S5230), Please?

  28. Aftab says:

i have just installed this app and it says non activated, how do i activate it or do i need to buy it?

  29. Dave says:

What version did you use to do avi to dvd? When I try the latest version, I can’t seem to select the correct aspect ratio. Thanks!

    • Ige says:

      Hi Dave,
I always use the latest version of Super. If you want, you can first check the original aspect ratio so you can choose the correct aspect ratio in your conversion settings.

  30. PHILIP KROM says:

After finishing thw convertion, the output file VIDEO_TS is empty. Why?

  31. ashu says:

which format support by real player in nokia 5800???

    • Ige says:

Hi Ashu, its one of the formats it supports is MP4. If you follow the instructions here, you should be able to play it in your Nokia 5800 using realplayer.

  32. Denis says:

I use to convert video made by my photocamera in mov format but always there is a gap between audio and video: audio is always delayed and I watch 2 people speaking and I hear their voices 2-3 second later.
Usually I convert mov into AVI (mpeg4) and mp3.
This happens alway with win7, xp, other formats, other pc…I don’t know

  33. Stevo says:

I just installed the latest version, 38 (from May2)
& it doesn’t seem to come with Encode buttons.
I have 5 GB+ of freespace on the main hard drive it’s installed in so thought it would have enough room.
Can’t see what problem is, but it doesn’t appear to do anything.

    • Ige says:

Are you using a netbook? Try increasing the resolution of your screen so that the whole interface of Super Video Converter is shown in the screen.

  34. terence says:

  37. hayden says:

converter worked great for my Nokia E63, except the sound is out of sync. is this easy to fix?

    • Ige says:

Modify the framerate or frames/sec setting to a higher or lower value, until you get the correct one. You may also check the frame rate of the original file and then use the exact same frame rate on your conversion settings.

  38. Diane says:

Super works great! But the last video I was trying to convert cut out the last 5 seconds of video and audio. My original file is a .3g2 and I’m trying to convert to .avi. Any suggestions?

    • Ige says:

That’s odd as it shouldn’t do that. Have you checked if you’ve accidentally modified some of the settings? Maybe you can try to reinstall the software?

  39. Martin says:
